Know Your Dream Client

Let’s be real—if you’re writing website copy without knowing your audience, you’re just tossing words into the void. Knowing your dream client isn’t a “nice-to-have”; it’s your starting point. And no, guessing their pain points isn’t enough.  It’s why we spend so much time working on the behind-the-scenes stuff before putting pen to digital paper.

Get into their heads (literally!)

Pick up the phone or jump on Zoom. Talk to your audience directly. Ask about their challenges, desires, and goals. You’d be surprised what they’ll share when you simply ask

Slide into their DMs. Don’t underestimate the value of your social media conversations. Listen to their frustrations, what lights them up, and even the exact words they use—that’s gold for your website copy. It’s like being a counsellor. Listen and replay.

Run surveys. Sometimes, it’s easier to gather intel when anonymity is an option. Tools like Google Forms or Typeform work like a dream for this.  You’d be surprised what tea gets spilt!

By speaking their language and reflecting their emotions back to them, you’ll create website copy that resonates deeply—and makes them feel seen and loved and helps them sell to their dream clients and customers too.

Position Your Brand as the Expert through Strategic Website Copy

Here’s the hard truth—confidence is magnetic. If you’re not showcasing how incredible you are, who else will? Your audience wants to work with someone who knows their stuff.  That’s why testimonials, genuine endorsements and authentic before and afters are literal gold dust. Bank that feedback and repurpose it.

Ditch the fluffy vibes

Strong, confident phrases like “I know” or “It is” make you an authority in your space. Avoid wishy-washy language like “I think” or “Maybe” in your website copy. You know you’re good at what you do—write like it.

Lead with your purpose

Head straight to your About Us page and answer, “Why should someone trust me?” Throw in any measurable achievements, like awards or industry recognitions. Better yet, talk about why you’re so passionate—it builds trust and makes your expertise relatable.

Pro tip: Show personal flair. Share that you’re not just a professional but human, too (yes, even if that means talking about your obsession with matcha lattes and Pilates on a Monday morning—yup, that’s my way to start a new week). These little quirks make people remember you and want to work with you.

Add a Dash of Sass to Your Website Copy and Brand Messaging

We serve everything around here with a large side of sass!

Now that we’ve nailed your confidence, it’s time to add personality. Your dream clients don’t want cookie-cutter brands—they want a human touch and to get to know you.

Inject your unique voice

Are you bubbly and energetic? Or calm and nurturing? Don’t try to sound like everyone else in your industry. Play up your quirks!  You need to find your tribe and be relatable. Not everyone will think you’re their cup of tea, but for some people, you will definitely be their glass of sparkling bubbly!

Examples to inspire you:

Sarcasm lover? “Because no one has ever been stressed planning a wedding (said no one, ever).”

Obsessively elegant? “Imagine sipping martinis while your website practically sells for you—effortless, chic, and profitable.”

Give them a reason to choose you. Because no one does it quite like you, right?  You are the OG.

Write Action-Driven Pages

When it comes to writing your website copy, every page of your website should scream purpose. And no, “Here’s some info about me” is not a purpose. Here’s how to craft action-oriented pages that guide your visitors step by step.

Use website copy to set clear goals per page

Ask yourself, “What do I want someone to do after reading this page?” Here’s a cheat sheet for typical web page goals:

Home Page: Make someone stay—highlight your unique selling point immediately.
About Page: Nurture trust with your story.
Services Page: Encourage booking, enquiries, or purchases.
Contact Page: Make it easy to reach out—don’t get too clever with this.

Turn those goals into tangible actions by crafting strong calls to action (CTAs).

Use power-packed CTAs

Generic CTAs like “Read more” are so 2024. Be specific instead.

“Book your glow-up session now.”
“Get your free fitness plan today.”
“Claim your spot in our wellness retreat.”

Great CTAs improve click rates and create clarity, nudging people to take bold next steps. Be super intentional about what you want them to do next. We all like to be directed at times. It removes the guesswork!

Make It Memorable with Great Storytelling

People may forget information, but they’ll never forget how a good story made them feel. Storytelling can do the same for your brand—it builds an emotional connection and keeps your business top-of-mind. At catdaniel.co.uk, we are huge advocates of this technique. It’s our favourite way of writing copy, and for good reason—it works.

Get ready to charm with stories

Have a hilarious client story? Share it. Achieved life-changing results for a customer? Flaunt it loud and proud.  Your website is not the place for you to shy away from your successes, stories and your flops even.

They all help make you more relatable.

Connect your brand message back to these stories. Whether it’s the struggles you’ve overcome or a relatable “oops moment” in business, storytelling makes you human.  We all love a tale of success in the face of adversity.

Talk like a friend, not a textbook

Keep it conversational. Use words your audience would actually say out loud. (And yes, that applies even if you’re in a formal industry like law or finance.)

Here’s your filter for writing copy: “Does this sound like me talking to my best friend?”

Hint: If it feels robotic or overly polished, hit delete and try again.  Don’t get us started on robots. They have their place but it’s not in writing your final website copy.

Edit Like a Perfectionist (But Don’t Get Too Precious)

Here’s the unglamorous truth about copywriting—even the best copywriters don’t get it 100% right on the first try. Strong copy comes from multiple editing passes.  Jeez, I mean, most days I look at my website and think – eek, fat-fingered typo right there!

Refresh your copy with fresh eyes

Write your draft and leave it for at least 24 hours. Returning to the text, you’ll spot clunky sentences, overused words, and better ways to phrase things.

Use the right tools

Editing tools like Grammarly are lifesavers for catching typos, improving readability, and tightening sentences. I can get behind this form of AI—a big advocate of Grammarly here. And if you’re serious about creating polished copy, consider investing in a professional editor.

Cut what doesn’t serve the reader

Reread your copy. Does every sentence earn its place? If not, kill your darlings (in other words, delete filler phrases), so your message hits hard and fast.  It’s easy to overfill with fluff.

Your Brand Deserves to Shine

2025 is not the year to blend in—it’s the year to stand out. Darling, be that flamingo in that flock of seagulls.

By refining your website copy with these tips, you’re not just upgrading your words—you’re elevating your brand position, standing confidently in your expertise, and creating deeper connections with your dream clients.
