When you’re managing a business, juggling deadlines, and chasing big goals, the idea of “self-care” can sound like an indulgence. Bubble baths? Meditation? Who has the time?! But here’s the thing—and this is key, so please listen up! Self-care isn’t about indulgence; it’s about staying functional, focused, and fabulous. If you’re burning the candle at both ends (even if it is a gorgeous-smelling Jo Malone candle), it’s only a matter of time before the flame goes out completely.  Trust me, I have form.

This blog is your chic little guide to weaving self-care into your hectic schedule because, darling, you absolutely cannot pour from an empty cup (or a cold matcha latte, for that matter, and don’t get me started on flat fizz!).

I’m very good at putting on a brave face, but behind the boundless positivity, I was weighed down by insecurities, plagued by not feeling I was “enough”, and generally feeling out of sorts.

Turns out, the stress of entrepreneurship is a shared experience!

Did you know that 47% of entrepreneurs report feeling stressed out regularly, according to a Forbes study? And stressed entrepreneurs aren’t thriving entrepreneurs—simple as that. 

Your business is like a houseplant (yes, we’re going there). Neglect it, and it wilts. Drown it in “overwork,” and it falters. Care for it, just right? It flourishes.

Spoiler alert: You’re the plant.

Here’s the thing—self-care isn’t just “good for you.” It’s good for your business. It’s the edge you didn’t realise you needed. Here’s why prioritising yourself can help you win in business, too:

Sharper Focus: Regular self-care clears mental clutter, helping you concentrate better, make decisions faster, and avoid costly mistakes. 
Enhanced Creativity: That oh-so-elusive lightbulb moment? It’s more likely to show up when you’re rested, refreshed, and not constantly in panic mode. 
Improved Productivity: Taking regular breaks isn’t slacking; it’s smart. Studies show a link between rest and sustained productivity—take it from science, babe. 
Resilience to Stress: Business hiccups are easier to handle when you’re in a good headspace. 

Feeling guilty about carving out time for “you”? Don’t be. Those precious moments could be the difference between a meh month and a milestone one. 

6 Self-Care Strategies Every Entrepreneur Needs 

Now, onto the good stuff—how do you actually implement self-care that sticks? Keep reading for practical, actionable tips you can start today.  I mean need to read these myself as a bit of a self-care refresher course!

1. Set Boundaries Like a Queen 

Repeat after me: “No is a full sentence.”

You’re not a superhero (even though you often act like one). Learn to protect your time rigorously. Office hours, client boundaries, and dedicated downtime are non-negotiable. 

2. Create a Morning Ritual You Love 

The way you start your day sets the tone for everything. Whether you journal, enjoy a matcha latte, or do a quick yoga flow, find a routine that energises you—even if it’s just 10 minutes. By the way, that was my go-to morning routine.

3. Move That Fabulous Body 

For some, that means spinning class; for others, it is a peaceful walk in the park. The point is to get moving. Not only does it release stress-busting endorphins, but it’s also a proven creativity booster.  Big fan of reformer pilates and boxing over here.

4. Say Goodbye to Hustle Culture 

Shocker alert—hustling might not always be the answer. Sometimes, stepping back to hit “reset” is far more productive than working through sheer exhaustion. Rested entrepreneurs make smarter choices. 

5. Tidy Space = Tidy Mind 

Your environment impacts your mood massively. A cluttered workspace often leads to a cluttered mind. Start every day with a little desk decluttering, and maybe light your favourite candle while you’re at it. Luxurious, no?  My office is my sanctuary. It’s a little bit of me, and it’s a space that never fails to spark my creativity.

6. Outsource Where You Can 

Repeat after me again, “Delegation is not defeat.” Whether hiring a VA for admin tasks or getting meal delivery for dinners, outsourcing things that drain your energy can be a serious game-changer.  There’s even a place for AI, but please, pretty please, do me a favour and make sure you train it.

If self-care’s importance isn’t in doubt, why is it so hard to implement? Because consistency is queen. Here are some tips to make it stick:

Schedule It: Treat self-care as a non-negotiable calendar appointment. No excuses. 
Start Small: Overhauling your life overnight is unsustainable. Pick one or two things and build from here. 
Buddy Up: Share your goals with a friend or colleague. Accountability works wonders. 

Here’s what you’ll discover—self-care becomes second nature when you treat it like a routine rather than an occasional splurge. 

Overcoming the Typical “I Don’t Have Time” Excuses 

Say it with me—we always make time for what we value.

No time? Find 10 minutes during your lunch break to take a walk.
Too much work? Use breaks wisely to recharge. You’ll tackle your tasks with more focus afterwards. 
Feel guilty? Think of self-care as fuel for your business engine. If you’re not running well, your business won’t either. 

Pro Tip: Reframe self-care as part of your business strategy. You’ll start seeing it less like a luxury and more like an investment.
